Sierra Carapé

Sierra Carapé is a hill range located in the southern part of Uruguay, it was formed in Precambrian time (Peak Bagger). Its part of a bigger range called the Cuchilla Grande. It crosses the Maldonado Department going west to east into the Rocha Department. It acts as the border between the two departments of Lavalleja and Maldonado (Peak Bagger). It contains Cerro Catedral which is the highest point in the country. Near the Cerro Catedral is the source of the José Ignacio Stream, which runs from the north to the south. Also nearby is the source of the Coronilla Stream which runs to the northwest. Some of range is mostly made up of granitic and gneissic (Peak Bagger).
